And welcome to Cascading, net home to Jo, creator and owner of this site. Cascading contains information about me, my life, and what-not. Navigation is so obvious you are a dummy if you don't know your way around this site. OK, sorry but I didn't mean to be rude. Anyway, good luck around my site!

"Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to continually be part of unanimity."

Then To Now
I was born on 7 April 1988 in Singapore. Everyone knows me as Jo, or JoJo, depending on who they are.

Singapore, is to me, my home. I guess I am lucky to be here - I don't want to be anywhere else. Usually I don't feel much about it, but I do feel a sense of fierce pride in me sometimes, to be a Singaporean. I don't want to be anything else.

I guess perhaps I do possess some of the traits of a stereotypical Singaporean. Don't get me wrong. I don't think that I'm a typical kiasu who has to win and be first in the queue and all that. I just strive to do my best in what I do - at least, that's what I think.

Back to being a child. My childhood wasn't filled with Barbie dolls everyone thinks a little girl should have. I spent my time reading books and playing on the computer. That is the way it still is.

I guess because of my reading all the books my parents bought me, I gained 'accelerated learning' or whatever you may call it. I was moved up to be in Kindergarten Year 2 when I was supposed to be in Year 1. However, the MOE would not allow me into primary school a year later because I was underaged. Thus, I had to take another year of Kindergarten 2.

The next year, in 1995, I was registered into Holy Innocents' Primary School. I spent my first three years of primary school education there. What was taught there, I must say, formed the basics for me, and got me ready for upper primary education; However, everything was simple and not challenging enough, not to the extent that I would break down and cry just thinking about one question.

The turning point came in 1997, when I was asked to sit for a test for the GEP (Gifted Education Program) stream. I took the test, yes, but before that I had never thought that I would get anywhere with that. After 2 rounds of tests, I received a letter saying that I had a chance to be admitted into the Supplementary stream, either at Rosyth School or Nanyang Primary School - I chose Rosyth, and that's where I spent my next three years of primary school education.

However, to tell the truth, the first semester that I spent there wasn't easy for me. I was very used to finding my work simple and nothing to me. When I first went to Rosyth, I found the work a little difficult and more challenging than what I was used to. I was so stressed at times that I broke out in tears at night. But then I began to get used to it, with time, that is. I started to settle in and realised that some of my classmates had faced the same problems that I did at the beginning. There were only 8 girls in the class. Obviously we stuck to each other. That's where I got to know my best buds that stuck with me all through the rest of primary school - Yvonne, Yuna, & Siew Han.

Another turning point in my life came in 1996, when I was 8 years old. That was when I learnt how to swim. My mother had to force me to learn how to, as swimming is useful to you. I grew to like swimming a lot, and then some more. Swimming is now my sport and part of my life. I guess I do regret that I didn't learn to swim earlier, but regret always comes too late.
